Description:
The BER Assessor of Dwellings (6N0732) programme is a QQI Level 6 course designed to provide participants with the knowledge, practical skills and competence required to carry out Building Energy Ratings (BER) for domestic dwellings in Ireland.
The programme covers key areas including dwelling surveys and data collection, building fabric and thermal performance, heating and hot-water systems, ventilation, renewable technologies, energy and CO₂ calculations, BER methodology and the practical use of SEAI’s DEAP software.
Successful completion provides participants with the QQI Level 6 BER Assessor of Dwellings (6N0732) Award, an important requirement for those wishing to progress towards registration as a Domestic BER Assessor with SEAI.
Course Structure
The programme consists of six instructor-led training days, running from 08:30 to 16:30, together with self-directed learning and assignments.
The six days are structured as follows:
- Day 1: Course introduction and classroom theory
- Day 2: Classroom theory and Assignment 1
- Day 3: Classroom theory and Assignment 2
- Day 4: Classroom theory and Assignment 3
- Day 5: Classroom theory and Assignment 4
- Day 6: 1-hour MCQ and site visit to complete a practical BER assessment
Each assignment is due approximately one week after it is issued.
The programme is delivered in line with the SEAI Domestic BER Training Specification. The typical learning effort associated with a QQI Level 6 minor award is approximately 150 hours, incorporating both contact teaching and self-directed learning.
Assessment & Certification
Assessment is carried out in accordance with QQI requirements and includes:
- 1-hour MCQ on the final classroom training day
- 4 assignments completed following the relevant training days
- Practical house visit and BER assessment
- An overall minimum grade of 70% is required
All assessment components must be successfully completed to achieve certification.
Successful learners will receive the QQI Level 6 BER Assessor of Dwellings (6N0732) Award.
Certificates are issued in line with QQI certification timelines
SEAI Registration Pathway
Following certification, learners who wish to become registered Domestic BER Assessors must separately complete the SEAI registration process, including the relevant online induction, documentation and agreement to SEAI codes of practice and quality-assurance procedures.
Final registration and approval as a BER Assessor are managed by SEAI.
CitA Skillnet Funding
60% funding is available through CitA Skillnet for eligible participants employed by private construction-sector companies operating in Ireland.
