CITA originated as a research project in the Dublin Institute of Technology with the vision of harnessing the potential of ICT in the Irish Construction Industry. CITA's aim is to encourage participants in the Irish Construction Industry to take ful advantage of current and emerging ICT.
In July 2006, CITA secured first round funding from Enteprise Ireland under the Industry Led Networks Pilot Initiative. The project known as CITAX (Construction IT Aliance eXchange) was a two year collaborative project between members of the construction industry. Work on this project was completed at the end of 2008.
In October 2007, CITA was successful in securing Skillnets funding for the period 2008-2009. The CITA Skillnet training network was a great success in 2008 and 2009 surpassing all of its training targets set by Skillnets Ltd. In December 2009, CITA was again successful in securing Skillnets funding for the period 2010-2011.The high level of performance achieved in 2009 has continued throughout 2010.
In October 2008, Enteprise Ireland funded CITA for a three year period (2008/2011) to develop a strong and active network of Construction SMEs that would focus on the benefits of IT to SME businesses in the Irish Construction Industry. Since September 2009 the network has held monthly breakfast seminars, workshops on new product development, as well as providing technical checks for all member companies and informational booklets on relevant topics.
